This challenge was to create something that could work as a Netflix cover art or an outdoor advertisement. I illustrated an under-sea scene as viewed in the deep sea. I made the foreground features bigger, brighter and more detailed and vice versa for the objects in the background. I challenged myself to integrate the text and make the word "seas" disappear into the dark waters without using transparency. I created heirarchy of information by making the title the largest and most eye-catching, and the hosting platform, Netflix, logo illuminated in the midground, central to the release date. I struggled with creating organic shapes that did not appear repititious whilst still appearing quanititous and having variety. I wanted to mimic the episode's illuminated midnight environment by forcing striking atmospheric perspective using cooler hues and darker values for background elements, as well as lessening detail the further you get from the viewer.
This could also be animated, a fish or crab exploring the landscape or a bubble floating up through the depths, to add visual interest in digital context. Conversely, this could be printed and utilized as a physical poster as well.
